I've been putting off...

...doing Nathan's laundry. I know it seems kind of silly to those of you have haven't had a spouse deploy, but doing his laundry for the last time (until he comes home) is quite emotional. In my mind, if I do his laundry, then he really isn't going to be here for awhile. If I pick up his stuff, he's gone. If I leave it all there, I can kinda think things are normal when they aren't. I can tell myself he is still around.

So, today, instead of doing his laundry, I just got mine out of the laundry basket and left his there. Pathetic, isn't it?

So, well...I have a little piece of advice for all the ladies, or gentlemen, reading this blog. Don't take doing the little things for your spouse for granted. It really is a privilege to be able to serve each other and take care of each other. Enjoy it!!!

  1. Beth, don't worry I never wash all Jerome's clothes until right before he comes home! And as an Army spouse sometimes that is a LONG time. The kids and I fight over his clothes. Especially the ones that have daddy cologne on them! When we really start to miss him, we just pull out some diry clothes and SNIFF! LOL Sounds silly, but it really helps.
    Love you!

  2. Thank you for such a servants heart perspective on taking care of our spouse! I definitely get frustrated cleaning up messes throughout the day but seeing it from your experience will help me appreciate it more! :) we have a great opportunity to be Christ like examples even in those simple and sometimes mundane tasks :) love you Beth, you are an amazing wife and mother to your family!

  3. Scott would purposely leave well-worn tshirts behind so I could enjoy his smell on them...weird, I know, but it made me feel better. When I came back home after dropping him off, I almost tripped over his slippers that he left in the middle of the floor. They stayed there for days because I couldn't bear to move them!
